I found this quote from Saint Philip Neri on my blog from last year’s Lent. It is important I remain cheerful when I’m giving something up, sacrificing something I like in order to have a closer relationship with God. Today, with my (frown) killing back pain it is tough to remain cheerful. How do people remain cheerful when they’re in PHYSICAL pain.
I couldn’t go to Mass for ashes today because I can’t hardly walk, let alone drive and attend Mass. This makes me a little sad. My Mom said I could ask one of the boys to bring me ashes home from the school Mass, so my ten year old was happy to do this for me. But our parish priest said it’s not allowed. (another frown). So, I ended up rubbing foreheads with my children to get some of their ashes onto me.
I remember that I am dust, and to dust I shall return.

Talk to me!
